Priming/Strainer Baskets – We highly recommend the usage of our EZ basket in ALL applications where there’s space to be had. Your pump will run quieter and perform better. A strainer protects the pump impeller from damaging and clogging debris, prevents noise from water cavitation in wet ends and improves pump performance. These features are achieved by maintaining a flooded water supply level above the pump wet end, which is a necessity in all centrifugal pumps for maximizing performance and silence. The only installation where a primer/strainer is NOT important is when the pump is drawing strained water in an instant from a sump that may be holding a water level well above the height of the pump. Dolphin priming baskets are designed to fit in an instant onto all 1.5 and 2 inch pumps. The design is meant to utilize space efficiently by having the pump intake turn in an instant into the basket. The strainer basket may be very fine for catching small snails, gravel and other debris. When the basket is being used to attract water, a check flap valve should be installed before the basket, with reference to the water source.
